Pontiac Grand AM.....runs and then cuts off after 5...

...miles or so...? have a 02 grand am, my daughter drives it from college, she just broke down on the side of the road and i had to go get it...problem: she could drive it for 5 or 6 miles and it would just cut off! let it set 10 mins and then it would go about 5 or 6 miles and cut off....when it cuts off and sh tried to turn the key on nothing happens...i'm guessing the power module is shot and its over heating and she is loosing power to the plugs...someone steer me in the right direction plz...ty in advance..........oh, changed the fuel filter.....

something is cooling down allowing it to close the gap and run again. then it heats up , expands and loses the fire.

My guess is the crankshaft position sensor.

If the 'check engine' light was coming on - suggest to have the computer codes pulled.

Aside from that, as the previous post-er suggested - it's likely something electrical that will probably be a booger to track down.
