pontiac montana 1999 key pass light is...

...on? I have a pontiac montana 1999 ,
I had to use spare key to run the car yesterday and I saw the key pass light came on for first time.
Car would die every time I tried to drive it.
Now with the 1st key we can start and drive, but the pass key light stays on.
What is the problem?

The passkey system has detected a fault either the key is warn or the cylinder that holds the sensor is warn or broken or possibly the system needs to be reset..
sometimes you can just leave the key in the on position for ten minutes to reset the system if that won't work I would have it looked at by a competent tech..
