Pontiac sunfire exhaust problems?

For some reason when i start the car the "Check engine light", and track control is off". The exhaust is making a put put put noise instead of a continuous sound. I just replace the #1, and number 4 spark plug cords which helped my car drive "in gear" so any idea why this light is on and the exhaust making put put put noise?
Also sounds like a jet taking off the more rmps i get up the louder it is. (never happend before till now)
Can i still drive the car if i cannot get it fixed in time?
 
replace all the spark plugs, the put put noise is the car missing at the idle, when you rev the engine it may seem to stop but it is still happening you just don't notice it a higher rpms, there may be more things wrong but change the plugs first..you may have a bad coil pack sunbirds are known for this issue use only ac plugs, they were designed to give your motor the best performance, no matter what anyone tells you use the plugs that were made for your engine
 
why would you only replace 2 spark plug wires? You replace all 4 as a set since if one goes the others may be near the end of their life too. Did you use new plug wires?
 
Hey, Honda and general tech of 5 years. Well you should replace all 4 plugs and wires. and do the general maintance like airfilter and ext. You can use whatever plugs. I have a 2002 Pontiac Sunflower myself and I use ac delco but i put autolights in and it runs the same. But try that. and when it gets running good take the muffler off and install a Fart can. Thats what I did and my car sounds deep and throating rich makes it sound healthier

I am having this similar problem this is what lead me to this site..... I really hope this is the problem and not the transmission... im changing the plugs tomorrow and will share the changes.... THX GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Correct me if I'm wrong but when you buy new plugs, don't they come in a 4 pack? So why only use 2 of them? Seems dumb to me and a waste of money.
 
Farting Noise.....

Changed all Spark Plugs and Car is running Flawlessly...... Check Engine Light Eve went off too....
