pontiac sunfire i have been having problem after problem with the car.?

i have a 2000 pontiac sunfire it has 118000 miles on it i recently had the starter rebuilt cause it stop working at work now about 8 months ago it started to smoke for that 1 day and would not work after that. when i turn the key a few months ago i would start clicking the lights and all work it just wont turn over now it just make 1 click when i turn the key. what can be the problem and would i come out better getting another engine if so do it have to be a pontiac engine cause i was told that aluminum engines have a lot of problems. i also have a heli coil repaired on it 3 years ago.

You may want to consider getting a newer car. Pontiac sunbird wasn't the most reliable vehicle when it was new. At 8 years old and 118k you are going to have a lot more trouble.

Sounds like it's time for a new starter, and that's better than needing an engine - lots better.
