I just bought a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire roller that I am going to put in a LS76 motor to run GT/AA. I may run into some hood clearance issues and stumbled onto a Ram Air hood.

I need to know if any of the 1995 or later models ever came factory with a Ram Air hood and what material it was made from. It would be great if someone has a pic, also.

Thanks!

You say you stumbled upon a ram air hood, who makes it? To the best of my knowledge there was no ram air option on the Sunfire from the factory.

Oh please don't be right. I really hoped they did so I can legally run it in Super Stock. This was on the cover page of FJ Smith's website. I believe he sells the hoods.

GM marketed many parts, exhaust systems, cold air intake, etc. as accessories installed by the dealer or owner. A hood could have been an over the counter part but I dont know what your class rules say about that.

The class rules for Stock Eliminator and Super Stock will only allow factory body parts. They won't allow over the counter, dang it.

I figured you were right and hoped there was some funky GT option or something that allowed that hood. I cannot tell from the picture what class he is running. Modified will allow a scoop, but not GT in Super Stock.

so they allow dropping in a V8 into a car that never came with one from the factory but they wont let you put a ram air hood on, thats weird!

It is called the GT class for Super Stock. It is a very popular class where you convert front wheel drive cars to rear wheel. You can put any corporate engine and transmission that is in the guide along with any rear end.

The "look" of the car must appear as the same as the showroom offered vehicles whether it is Stock, Super Stock, or Super Stock GT. You can put a hood scoop on Super Stock Modified, but that is a whole different engine concept.

Ok, I made a bone head mistake. It is a 2005 Sunfire and not a 1995. Does that make any difference for a possible Ram Air (or Cold Air) option that would have the hood in the picture?
