Hi guys. My name is Chris.
I directed myself to these forums because I'm interested in buying a Fiero.
I currently own a Tercel with a 4efte (1.3 liter turbo from Japan) swap. Uhm, the car is great, it's fast. But it doesn't feel right, and it's mega mega expensive to fix. So I'm shopping for cars again.
I'd really like to get another 80s car, possibly with flip lights. I love 80s sports cars, specifically cars shaped like the Fiero, 89 Probe Gts, Starions/Conquests... That almost not square look? I don't know, Something about them. So it's not just a Pontiac love really
Anyway, I have a few questions before I make a purchase on craigslist.
First, I know Fieros are some-what rare cars. But does that mean the engine and parts are rare? I had a 91 Civic Wagon, and finding a hood was a nightmare after someone dinged mine. But the engine parts where at every parts store. Basically what I'm getting at is, if I do have a mechanical problem - will I be stuck waiting a week or so for a part to reach a local store? Also will the parts for this be mega expensive? Head gaskets, piston rings, etc...
Also, is 25-30mpg on 87 unleaded a safe estimate? I've done some reading around. Gas mileage is a huge bonus for me. I know there's different engine sizes but...
And... This may sound dumb or like nonsense... But I heard Pontiac, Hummer, Saturn, and Mercury were put to sleep. Does this mean - parts for Pontiacs will increase in price?
I've got mild to good mechanical knowledge, just haven't worked on a middle/rear engine before
I probably can't afford a mint condition Fiero, so my wrench is ready for work if necessary... Dono if my wallet is lol.
