Hey all
I'm in an 02 sunfire. Power steering pump is loud at idle and when you get up to 2K on the tach, it's SCREAMING. Also, it has a nice generous leak.

I have it up on axle stands with the wheels off and can't see the source of the leak on the rack or the pump.

The thing is: It's shreiking horribly even though I refilled the PS reservoir.

Is the only source of LOUD PS pump noise a lack of fluid? Or can the pump itself be so far gone that it shreiks even when full?

more importantly - can someone point me at a linnk for resources on DIY PS work on the sunfire. I searched the forum but haven't had any luck.

thanks in advance!

if you ran it dry you may have damaged the pump causing the noise. To find the leak clean everything off and search for the source including any hoses.

I had the same issue with my 01 sunfire i noticed that one morning i started up my car and heard my power steering so i checked it and it was close to empty the night before everything was fine, so i went down to my local parts store and bought some lucas powersteering stop leak and added that and everything seems to be good. that was 3 months ago.

i also have a leak. it looks to me like mine is on one of the metal parts of one of one of the lines. where it makes a rectangle at the bottom of the car. the line rusted through, like my brake line did last summer. looks slow unless the pump is putting pressure through, then it pukes the fluid. i'm not sure which line it is though, return or 'pressure' from the gm-parts page.
