First off I am new here so hello everyone, and secondly, I bought a 2003 montana last week. The passenger side window has been really strange. When I got it home it wasnt working, well, it wouldnt roll down, you could here it powering up to roll up, just not down, so I ran out and bought a motor, changed it and still wasnt rolling down, still was trying to roll up and all. So i played around with the wiring at the switch, and noticed if I put ground to the dark blue wire, it would work, but if i left the ground to it, and tried to roll it up, it shorts and sparks. well after playing around with it on sunday, it just started working fine, with no wires or anything hooked up to it, it worked as normal, now today, it doesnt roll down. So i am just wondering if anyone knows how the wiring works, or has any repair schematics or where i should look for the problem, I know its gotta be something really easy, its just really pissing me off now....thanks anyone for any help or advice....

Also I noticed that it you unplug the harness from the passenger side, if you go over to the driver side, and mess with that switch, it loses all power to it, so.....Does it run from the passenger side, over to the driver side? Also for further info, it doesnt roll down from the driver side either.....could it be the switch. I metered the blue and Light blue wire, and found they were shorted with the switch in idle position, and when you rocked it to roll up it opened, also the brown wire and the otehr wire across from it were shorted while the switch was at idle posisiton and when you go to the roll down position, it opens as well, so im guessing that is eliminating the switch, but those brown wire and other wire across from it seem to have nothing to do with the window rolling down......im lost as of now...thanks again for any help...

Before you get too crazy, stop and take a good look at at a few things.

First are the wires spliced anywhere? Look inside the boot that goes from the post to the door. Look at the door itself...any signs that it was repaired or replaced? Is there a ground wire coming from the window harness and attached to the door?

If all the wiring looks original w/o any splicing, check the power window relay.

As for the motor...are you sure you put in correctly? Was the "new" motor new or used?

hello, well the new motor was "NEW". the old motor had power to roll up, but notthing to roll down. so i thought it was bad on going down. so thats why i ran out to buy a new one. and i did put it in right, they just clip in, also when i was in the door i didnt see any splices. i could tell it had never been taken apart before though, just obvious things once i got the panel off. Also i will try to take a look at the boot and stuff, BUT where are the power window relays? is there one for each side? i have only been able to see the 30 amp breaker in the fuse box, and help on the relay is appreciated...... I thought maybe the relay was sticking but usually they are with the fuse box on older cars...thanks

Not sure where it would be on your van but my tahoe has a relay box under the hood.

If your sure it's the original door from the van then the wiring probably isn't spliced in. Just that I've seen lazy bodymen cut/splice the wires inside the boot rather than pull the harness out when either replacing the door or the door skin.

Just that a 2003 seems kind of new to have this problem so I was thinking maybe a less then quality collision repair in the past.

well i found out from the dealer tonight that there are no relays in the montanas, the guy in the parts department really didnt know too much about what i was talking about after explaining the situation..... anyway i cant seem to find a haynes manual that exceeds past 2001...are the layouts basically the same for the 2001 compared to the 2003's? i could buy an actual GM manual, but im not going to drop 150+ on one of those...though worth it i cant afford it now....
