Problem with gauge cluster

First of all, Hello, I just signed up... now that thats out of the way...


My girl friends 04 sunfire has been giving her some trouble, the other day her speedometer read 0 and the tach read 1k well, obviously this isn't right while moving, lol.

I was guessing speed sensor issue, but now I'm not sure... as the tach is maxed and the speedometer is at 0.

anyone ever have this issue and know the answer?

why would you describe a failure of a component on an 8 year old car as random?
