...1987? the car takes long to turn on the when i step on the gas it shakes but i step on it more the motor evens out what can be the problem?

Check the timing. I almost said, tune the carb, but congratulations, you don't have one.

Sounds like time for a tune up, maybe.
Get a Haynes Repair Manual at the local Auto Zone or auto parts store in your area. It will troubleshoot and show you how to fix your vehicle. Also on the Auto Zone site has a section for vehicle maintenance

sounds like its time 4 new plugs and wires also change the distubutor cap and rotor and the fuel filter this should help good luck
