Got a 2005 Grand Am that can't change vent selection for air to blow out. It is currently blowing out all vents (front, foot, and defrost) no matter what you select. How should I go about troubleshooting this? Any diagrams showing where everything is located would be helpful. Thanks

most common problem is your mode door actuator...its on the driver side up near the radio.

Yes, that is what he is referring to

I haven't looked yet, but how do you get to the actuator to replace it? Remove the radio and go through there?

Go under the dash just above your gas pedal and of to the right it is mounted on the side console near the radio.

Alright, the replacement actuator came in last night. Before I attempt to replace the existing one, something came to mind. Does the door need to be in a certain position before installing the new actuator?

Does anybody have a diagram or picture showing the actuator and where it is located? I did a quick look yesterday and couldn't seem to find it. Is there a plastic cover on the underside of the dash that should be removed?

Remove the instrument panel I/P trim pad.
Important: Note the location of the hoses.
Disconnect the yellow vacuum hose (1) and red vacuum hose (2) from the mode actuator.
On your model you have to remove the whole dash.

That's the mode actuator that those hoses are connected to? I saw this when looking; however, I was looking for the part I listed above. This looks completely different.

the link you posted is what they use now but its not on your model.

What do you mean by its what they use now? It replaces what I currently see or it's what comes on newer pontiacs? I did notice its what is used for the blend door actuator on the passenger side.

its on all newer GM vehicles, they dont use the vacuum anymore.

check the door that works as well, they have been known to break.

Got ya. Do you happen to know a part number for my application? I'm having trouble finding it.

I cant find a part # but I can get it at work tomorrow.
