i know nothing about cars really and i was wanting to know if a GT is always a 6 cylinder or if it can be a 4 or 6 cylinder. i may be getting a grand am gt soon an was just curious on what it was.

Older generations, I'm not sure. But as I've seen it, last gen Grand Am GTs (before they redesigned them to the G6) were all six-cylinders.

They can be either V/6 or 4 cyl, they came both ways ..
