I bought an '85 Fiero for $1000 recently, for a retirement project. It had a lot of miles (191,000) and had been painted hi-liter yellow (originally red), but the body was perfect, the interior very good, and I drove it the 70 miles home without incident. But I'm not sure what model it is. I've gotten two different interpretations from two different websites. One said the fifth position "E" meant it was a basic coupe and another said it was a sport coupe. It has a sunroof, luggage rack, and 5-speed transmission, if that helps. (BTW, thanks to Orief and others for help with the motor mounts and speed sensor.

For the 5th digit, E = Coupe
This is for BOTH the base coupe and the sport coupe.
The difference between the base and sport was just the trim level. Some items that were optional on the base coupe were standard on the sport coupe. Example would be suspension, wheels, nicer interior, etc.

autozone or another autoparts store should be able to run the vin and tell you exactly which model and trim level it is. I recently bought a honda delsol and found out from the parts store that it had an engine swap, which the previous owner failed to mention.
