I had an aftermarket radio installed several years ago, something like this.

The static is present whenever the radio is being powered. Pressing the release switch on the LCD/button panel causes the static to stop.

I thought that the static was simply a bad front stereo... spent the day taking apart the door and unplugged the speaker.

Put the door back together and now the static has jumped to the tweeter!

I am not sure if the problem is due to the aftermarket radio or a grounding issue.

My next step would be to replace the aftermarket radio with replacement of the OEM, but I wanted to seek assistance before spending ~$150 on a replacement.

Any suggestions? I would be really depressed if I bought the OEM and the static persisted.

The static is there whether the engine is running or off?
Have you tried attaching a wire to the chassis of the radio and anything metal.

If the engine is off there is no static.

If the engine is on and the radio buttons panel is clicked in place there is static.

Static stops if the radio panel is ejected by pressing the release switch in the corner.

I haven't tried attaching a wire but whenever I take apart the radio I will.

Does the static change with engine rpm?

Nope. No change when accelerating/decelerating.

I think it would be a good idea to rule out having a faulty LCD/button panel so I'll just buy/return one and insert the new LCD/panel for testing.

Just wanted to update that I replaced the radio with one of a similar model and the speaker static went away.

Now I get to take apart the driver side door again! :alien:

Thanks for the update
