I'm not a very good engineer, I can do the basics brakes, fluids, tires, thermostats ect. But one of my dreams is to get into rally/rally cross racing. (Racing that isnt a big circle (Nascar)). I got a new job and with no real bills other than insurance I'll have money to budget a "Race Car". This is would be a project, hobby, investment. And so i can smear it in the face who label my favorite car in the world as a poor mans ferrari and "shit".

The Car:
88 Pontiac Fiero Forumula ( i like notchback more than fastback )

Engine:
L36 3800 II engine (200hp , 225 tq)

So what would you do to it? I wanna get around 500+hp was thinking a nice big turbo, new suspension ect.

Have you thought about starting with autocross? Not sure if you know what it is but typically it takes place in a large parking lot with a course set up using cones. You are placed in an appropriate class against similar cars and the idea is to go through the course in the shortest time possbile without hitting any of the cones. It involves more skill than just who has the most powerful engine.

Sounds fun but i'd like to do Rally due to it being more of a cirucit and challanging/dangerous.

There are very few high speed rallys run in this country due to obvious liability reasons. With autocross you can safely learn how you car handles at it's and your limits. The next step would be high speed time trials run at numerous road race tracks around the country usually run by local car clubs. Most rally's in this country are TSD, time, speed, distance, and again are run by local car clubs.

Road Race would be fun, I've been wanting to race since I was little. Growing up around cars and drag racing. I can get into drag racing but a straight race isn't mine thing I like cornering, and more of a challange, its not all engine/reaction speed. But yeah most rallying is out of country. But if your discovered here and sponsered then you get to go over there.

I followed the same path sort of, drag racing, autocross, high speed time trials, and 1 road course race. Many years of fun!

if you go turbo get one of the new precision billet turbos. The smallest I would go is the 6262, I would recommend the 6768
