I have a 1999 Grand am SE 4cyl with just about 90,500 miles on it. I am about 500 miles away from needing an oil change (if they actually changed it when i bought it like they said) the other day I made a sharp left turn and the oil light came on for a second and it went out. I thought maybe it was a fluke. Then it happened again today on a turn and it was only on for a slip second, barely long enough for me to see that it even went on. I checked my oil, the level was fine. But the oil was BLACK. should i try getting my oil changed first and see if that fixes the issue?

im not sure if the 2.4 pcm is programmed the same as the 3.4 but the oil light will stay on when it has gone through its "oil life" cycle. i think its set for about 7000km/4350mi give or take, sometimes you have to reset your oil light inside the fuse box.

check your oil level over the next week and compare any oil loss. could be a dirty sensor or loose wire IMO. if anyone has anything else to chime in on...

Try this:
To reset "CHANGE OIL" light, turn the ignition switch to the run position without starting the engine. Fully depress and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. and wait for the light to flash.

Another method:
Turn key to ON - do not start. Press RESET button in driver's side fuse box. Change Oil light on dash should start flashing. Now Press & Hold RESET button until the Change Oil light turns off & you here 3-chimes.

Low oil? I recommend you monitor your oil level

It was the red one with the little oil dripping out of it. anyway, i went out to my shop, they said it was a quart low, i put a quart in. I am scheduled for an oil change tomorrow. Hopefully that is the end of my issues.

Being 1 quart low on a turn may cause the light to come on. How many miles are you waiting before changing the oil or if using oil life monitor at what percentage?
