Raw gas smell and "Chk Eng Light"

Hello, I'm new the board and hope you can help me. I have an 01 GranAm GT. I get a Chk Eng Lt and periodically smell raw gasoline. Usually this is after a long hill or deceleration process. I assume the vapors are being purged somehow improperly or there is a leak. The code is 1440, I think. It's the same code you get for a bad gas cap which I've replaced (after market item). I reset the codes and within 100 miles, it returns. The gas smell is not constant so I don't believe It's a gasoline leak.
I have replaced the head gaskets but his problem started before that. Any help would be appreciated.

you need a smoke test of the evaporative system to determine where you have the leak. I assume you have checked around the injectors and fuel pressure regulator and the fuel filter.

Yes, it's all dry. Is the smoke test something I can do?

Just saw a video of the smoke test. My next step will be to do the best visual i can do. I do have a manual. I guess it's time to get dirty.

It's a rather expensive machine, cheaper to pay to have it done.
