Okay, replaced front wheel hub/bearing assemblies, rotors and pads. Took it to a mechanic to have the brake fluid flushed and bled properly. Driving home we noticed a whine from the rear end, got louder between 40 and 50 mph and then again between 60 and 65mph. Slow and slow turns no sound. I took it home and did the rear differential flush and fill with the GM TSB on left turn/right turn deal and no sound again at slow speeds but very loud again at higher speeds. Fluid did not look that bad by the way. When we hit about 62mph it sounds like something in the back is going to explode! Is this maybe not the rear differential but maybe something to do with the drive shaft or U joint?

Any thoughts?

Look at the rear universal for signs of rust, excessive play, etc.
