I put the rear seats on my 2009 Pontiac Torrent down to move some longer items. When I tried to put the seats back up I found that the intertial reel for the seat belt for the middle passenger was locked. I can not lift the seat up past 45 degrees. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the reel to release?

Thanks in advance.

can you get the seat to a point where there is no tension on the belt. If you can, try pulling the belt out a little more to release the lock.

Try to see if there is a opening in the side of the retractor where you can insert a small screwdriver to release the lock mechanism.

Same problem myself. After doing some research it's beyond common and 100% of us can expect it to happen. Can't find the spot to make it loosen. Should've been recalled.

I removed the four bolts holding the seat and railing to the body, unbolted the seatbelt from under the seat where it attached to the body, pulled it through the seat between the bottom seat part and backrest part, tilted the seat forward and released the tension. Takes about 30 minutes. I agree this should have been recalled. Actually should have never been engineered this way with the seatbelt inside of a seat that folds down. Poor engineering choice, IMO.
