I have an opportunity to buy a 1997 Grand Am SE coupe with the 3.1 liter V6 for $500. The body and interior are in great condition, but the engine is shot. It will also nee new tires. I have been told it would cost about $2,000 to get a rebuilt engine installed. Is that amount in the ballpark? I'm thinking anything over a $500-$750 investment would be waste of money as I don't think the car would be worth more $1,500.
