Hi everyone. Picked up this vehicle from my brother, who got it from my Grandfather, who was the original owner. While my brother had it, it would randomly stop running, so he took it in to a mechanic. They replaced the fuel filter and pump, and it ran fine. I flew to Denver to pick it up and drive home, and it died about three hours into our 12 hour drive home with it. It'll turn over, but never start back up. When turning the key to On, there's no sound from the pump working, but if you have a hand on the bottom of the fuel tank while someone turns the key, you can feel a slight thud. I'm assuming it's a bad pump, so I'm thinking I'm going to replace it with another. I've watched a number of videos on how to do it, and think I have a good handle on it. My issue I'm running into is that I can't figure out how to get the fuel out of it. I had completely filled the tank before it died, so trying to drop the tank while full is too much weight for me to handle. I bought a hand pump siphon with a tube to stick down through the fuel fill pipe from the side of the car, but when I push it down, it gets to a point where it won't go further, and can't pump any fuel out. I've thought of pulling that big 2" hose off from under the car, but I'm afraid that 10 gallons will come pouring out and I have no way of catching all that! Any ideas of how to get the fuel out in a controlled fashion, into a small gas tank that I can then dump into another vehicle 1.5 gallons at a time? Thanks!
Matt
