Ok so I have a 84 Fiero SE with the 2.5L. It started just fine as of last time I parked it. Now when I try to start it, it just clicks once when I turn the key. I checked the battery and that was fine. I checked the cables, they seem fine. So my next guess is the starter (Unless I'm wrong and there could be something else). So I get underneath it to try and remove it, and I admit I have no idea what I'm doing. The catalytic converter is in the way for the first part, and I don't know which bolts or where they are I am supposed to remove. PLEASE help me I need this car running before winter so I can store it properly. Images would be great too :D

I have no idea where it is on the 2.5. But either follow your battery cable or look around your transition because it sits on it. Then go get it tested at your local auto parts store!

The starter is removed by removing the 2 bolts on the bottom. The square block that meets the transmission has 2 bolts pointing straight up.

To get the starter out of the car, the exhaust has a connection on the bottom on the drivers side. Remove the 2 bolts with springs and you will be able to angle the exhaust down to get the starter out. These bolts usually have a lot of corrosion on them so spray them with PB Buster a day before you start working on loosening them.

Ok thanks, I got it out and had it tested. It works fine. But now it still wont start, just a click when I turn the key. I checked the grounds and they seem to be fine. Any other thoughts on what could cause this? All fuses are good.

Whats the voltage reading at the starter when you hear the click?

So I took out the starter again, put it back in, and it started right up. I think the car is female, its so temperamental. I did nothing to provoke it to start but mess with the starter which didnt have a problem in the first place. This isn't the first time either. The wiring is an absolute mess in the engine compartment. Anyone know where I can get a new wiring harness??

Many times with the removal and installation of electrical components, the terminals and grounds are "cleaned" by the mechanical actions taken place during the evolution. Any time you remove an electrical component (halogen headlights determinately excluded), you should take the time to clean the electrical connections, including the grounds.
