So…my master cylinder was failing,, at stop lights as you held down the brake it would continue t slowly go to the floor. Fair enough, I’ve done several master cylinder replacements before on different cars without a problem, why not? I ordered a new one off Amazon, made by Doorman. Looked exactly like the original until I tried bolting it on and discovered that the threads on the new cylinder were smaller than the threaded flanged brake line ends. The original bore in the cylinder was 9/16 wide with a 18 thread slope and the new master cylinder is 1/2” with a thread slope of 20. I originally thought it was just a bad part from Amazon. Went on to check four different auto parts stores and all of them showed the only replacement as the same one I got off Amazon with the different size openings. The only only solution I found was to get a reducing adapter nipple ( Autozone part number BLF-26C) to screw onto it, I found one, but because the length of the reducer pushed the brake lines out further there is no longer room between the master cylinder and the proportionate valve, ABS block. Had to carefully bend the brake line closest to the firewall to clear the nut on the abs block mounting bracket and attach the reducer to the brake line first and attach that to the master cylinder before bolting it on the firewall.
I’m writing all this in hopes of saving somebody else the misery of trying to sort out what to do. It’s messed up that the aftermarket doesn’t support the Aztek and build parts that are at least usable to bolt on to it. I’ve had 10 hours tied up in this trying to sorting out what should’ve been an hour job.
