Replacement for Catalytic converter

I need to replace my catalytic converter and since it is not required here, I am just going to straight pipe it. I have a friend who will weld it for me and I was wondering what size of pipe I need to pick up to replace it with?

If it's a direct bolt cat, just get under the car, unbolt the cat and ram a crowbar down the center of it to knock the honeycomb loose. Then dump out the honeycomb and bolt it back up.

Same concept of straight piping it.
