My dad's upper coolant elbow (GM part # 24503423) is leaking in his 1996 Bonneville SSE. Coolant is leaking out the "left" side in the attached images.

What does one have to do to replace it? The part itself is cheap, but it looks like a lot of stuff might have to be removed to replace it.

It sits just above the water pump, and can be seen in the center of these two images:

Sure does! Thanks.

Now just have to have Dad watch it and see if he says
A) "Ahh that's not so bad"
or
B) "Dave can do it! I'm not taking off all that 'stuff'!"

Good luck!

Bad news. Apparently his has a newer design. Instead of having two coolant elbows, the lower elbow was replaced with a casted protrusion from the aluminum part that holds the alternator and the tensioner. It broke off when he was removing it.

Any idea what that whole part is called, and what the part number might be?

take the part to a local dealer or junk yard and let them ID it for you.
