While changing CV axles I found the seals are different from right and left.
My question is that the left axle only appears to go in approx. 1 inch vs. the right goes in almost 2 inches.
Does this difference make a whole lot of sense or did someone maybe put in the wrong axle.
I am a little afraid of destroying the ne axle if it does not go in a little farther.
I'm now in the process of waiting for the right-side seals as it turns out I ordered two left seals.
I already sent back the left seals and will half to reorder the correct one.
left seal has a dome and right seal does not.

Do you hear it snap in?

Haven't gotten that far yet. Still waiting for a right-side seal.
It was 100 degrees today, so work is a little slow.
The reason I am changing both is because they were banging when starting and stopping and getting shimmy around the 60 to 70 mph mark.
Plus, the boot was torn on the left and making a heck of a mess.
I also managed to damage the tie-rod end boot, so I replaced both ends. I blame that on the heat.
I had previously change both lower control arms last fall and wheel bearings last spring.

OOPS
Now I have a real problem.
Decided to use what I already had but when I popped the seal out it is nowhere near the OEM seal.
Anyone have the correct part number for this seal.
Right front AWD CV axle seal 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6
This seal is approx. 3.5 inches wide and the shaft size is approx. 1and 1/4 inches.
Thats way bigger than what I ordered off Amazon.

Already tried that.
They only show rear seals.
This is obviously not a standard part and without some kind of part number I pretty much at the mercy of the Pontiac gods.

The good news is I found a part number.
The bad news is I cannot find any place that carries it.
AC Delco 12571296

Thank you
I searched under the AC Delco part number and found it.
I have been looking under CV Axles seals and not transfer case seals.
Looked at a couple other sites with the Delco PN under output shaft but it wasn't there so I guess I can wait a few extra days.
Now I just have to get it all back together before the holiday weekend camping trip.
Thank you very much.
