What kind of resistor do I need for a point type distributor to go from 12 volts down to 9.3 volts to keep from burning up my points?

You make no mention of the year but the car if it had points from the factory would have a double wire connection at the + positive terminal of the ignition coil. One wire comes from the ignition switch and is a resistor wire which lowers the voltage once the engine is running. The second wire is a regular wire and comes from the starter solenoid and provides a full 12 volts while cranking. What has been done to your car that you no longer have the original wires harness and what year is it?
