I checked the forum and i dont see anything with my question.

i am thinking of putting different rims on my 02 sunfire

it has 14in rims and the tires are 195/70R14

could i change it to 15in rims with 205/55R16 tires (or something like it but with the 205 still)

will it mess up my speedometer and odo?

if it does how can i change the rims and not mess up the speedometer

Go to tire rack online, enter your cars information.

You will see many options for tires or rims, you can plus size your rims as long as the circumference of the new plus sized rims have tires on it are the same size circumference as the old tire you took off.

Tire rack will not show you any tires or rims that will interfere with the driveability of your car or the speedometer.

If you want to lift or lower your car and tuck in much larger in diameter tires and rims you will need a way to re calibrate the speedometer.

by purchasing a unit like the one in the link I provided .

I am not sure if anyone make one specific for the Sunfire.

if you do go beyond just plus sizing the rims you will need larger brakes better suspension components different gear ratio trans-axle etc.

Many people with very large tires and rims just ignore the incorrect speedometer and use a app in their smart phone for a speedometer or just go with the flow of traffic.

If you cannot find a away to electronically re calibrate the speedometer, sometimes the aftermarket industry provides a mechanical way to do it.

So let us know what your wanting to do and we will see what we can do to help.

All I can say is be careful what you wish for you may hate it once you have it.

the optional 15" was 195/65x15, the 205/55x15 would be one inch smaller and effect the speedometer and car computer.

I think the OP also made a typo on his post his said 16 inch tires yet 15 inch rims.

You have options on tire rack from 14 inch to 20 inch. the most options are for the 17 inch
just use the selection guide and pick the rims you like then add the tires it will show you what size the replacement tires are.

if you went with the 17 inch wheels the tires you would need are 215/45RF17

yeah i made the typo thanks i meant 15in

i used this site to tell me my cars OE tire/rim sizes http://www.wheel-size.com/

i was looking at tire rack last night,

i chose my car so OE sizes would show up

i chose 15in 6.5 in circumferance (OE size)

the only tires it would show are like these P205/60R15 90T

i dont want to lower the car at all (it scrapes everywhere on OE supspension which is worn out)

i dont have a smartphone yet, would these mess up the speedometer

If you have a 2002 PONTIAC SUNFIRE SE SEDAN that I looked up on tire rack.
Go there and look up tire rim packages, you will have options from 14 inch to 20 inch.

None of the tires and rims listed will lower your car or change the circumference of the tire.

If your suspension is worn out it should be inspected, worn parts should be replaced as needed before you invest money on plus sized tires and rims.

the larger tires and rims you go with will increase the cost of replacement tires.

A worn suspension will cause you to replace your more expensive tires that much faster.

I am not sure I can offer you any other advice.

However I think the information you are looking for and perhaps did not explain the question they way you intended will be covered in this link

thanks, I did just do some looking and found a service receipt for 4 struts and a alignment check just a couple of years ago, and I am going to get it inspected in the middle of december.

i was just trying to clarify since melsg5 said something different

If you do not see the tire size you want to run on tire rack, it is not a option that you should consider, because it will effect not only the speedometer but the gear ratio, fuel economy, performance, anti lock brakes and traction control.

Going by tire rack the 15 inch tires that will work with your car is 205/60R15 these would not lower your car the link I provided once read will explain the differences in plus sizing.
