hello to everyone. I have a question that I am looking for some suggestions on. My family and I are going on vacation in a couple of weeks and my wife and I are getting a little concerned that we are not going to have enough room in the van to take what we need. We have a 2005 Pontiac montana sv6. All of the seats are pretty much taking up from me my wife and our 3 children in which 2 of them are teenagers. We have the cargo holders on top of the van but no slats. would anyone suggest putting anything up there if I got slats and strapping down real good? If so where would I get those slats from? I wouldn't be putting much up there except for some fishing poles and a couple sets of golf clubs. How durable or how tight could I tighten something down before the holder things would rip out of the roof? If no one suggests that, would you have any other suggestions that I could use to try and maximize all of the space I have and/or save space. At first I thought we would be ok and we may still be, but as the time gets closer I keep looking in there and try to visualize packing and it is going to be real close. I honestly may not have enough room for everything that we need to take. Thanks for any input that anyone may have.

I have an 03 and had a 2000, both vans has roof racks and cross bars supplied from the factory, which I use(d) with a sears cargo container of the clam shell design. For you looking for cross braces I would start with GM then after market. As far as load specs that should be in the manuaLet and also listed on the cargo container. I'm in the same boat as u , with 4 kids on vacation u need every bit of space. Just don't forget about the added height when traveling, meaning no parking garages. One time we went to Florida and after arriving I did remove it for the week and then re In stall before trip back, something about traveling with it empty and a lower speed. Good luck and keep us posted.

Yeah I am looking at a couple of cargo racks on craigslist. I will get the manual out and look at the load specs. That would ruin a good vacation if the cargo container got ripped off because you forgot it was up there, but I'm sure that it has happened. Thanks for the input.
