runs until you turn it off

I have a 1996 firebird and if it's been sitting for awhile can you turn it on it'll start but if you turn it off and try to start it again it won't start if you wait awhile and try to start it it will start right up I am so lost what is going on can som eone please tell me what's wrong with it I will be so grateful for any help with this problem thank you so much

when it doesnt start, is the engine turning over or you hear nothing at all?

All it does is cranks but never even trys to catch to turn over. It's weird cause I can go out now and it will start but if I turn it off and try to restart it all it does is cranks and if I wait some hours and go start it it will start and if I turn it off the whole cycle starts over. Please help

you have to check if you have a spark at the plugs and what your fuel pressure is when the car wont start.
