Can I sand blast the abs panels. I'm pretty sure I'd be ok with the fiberglass, not too sure about the plastic body parts, though.

you can sand blast both..buuuuuut if you sand blast a spot for to long you could melt the platic and could delaminate the fiberglass..the sand hitting the spots create heat and plastic and fiber glass don't like heat to much more the plastic then the fiberglass

it would be twice as easy and safer to use a palm sander or sanding block. exspecialy if your paint is already peeling because its brittle. i sanded my hood and fenders in about an hour. that was inside and out.

I don't think it would be easier as I've used a sandblaster before. Safer...maybe.

i say easier because unless you have a walk in booth or portable machine and a ton of sand its a pain. and i said safer because it could gouge the pannles and than its bondo and sanding. but good luck. keep updates on how it goes.

I would think this would give you a smoother finish too, and require less paint and re-sanding later.

Thats not a 100% true..if you were to get high grit for the sand blaster you should get the perfect texture to paint on.since you don't want a baby smooth surface when aplying paint..after 2 coats you can't even tell it was sand blasted

why arent you considering what I believe is called a media blaster, uses plastic particles as opposed to sand?

Media blasting creates way less heat. It is prefered on metal, plastic is even softer.
