Belt.gifI replaced the water pump, Power Steering pully, and Belt. When I was taking off I notice that the tensioner bolt that holds the tensioner to the engine was very loose. After replacing the belt because it had shredded, the tensioner had sufficient spring and I used the tool to be able to put belt on. I checked all points of contact for the belt and made sure it was seated and routed properly. But the belt seemed small in length causing the tensioner not to look straight up and down like the routing diagram pictured but pulled to the right cause the belt to rub on the part of the tensioner that mounts to the engine. I doubled checked the specification on the belt and made sure it was the right one.Anybody have an idea?

What year and what manufacturer and part number belt?
Are you sure the tensioner isn't weak ?

The belt was very tight not sure if any increase in tension would stretch the belt(I think not). It is a 2002 grand am 6 cylinder. The belt I have is a driveworks 865k6. IMG_30432.jpg

You replaced one or more pulleys, did you compare them to the originals?
The belt is correct so either wrong pulleys or the tensioner. There is nothing else to account for the problem.

Hi,
I think someone put a 2000 engine in a 2002 body. I looked at all parts and sizes and they are the same. Also I checked part numbers for the 2000 vs the 2002 and they are are the same except the belt is a 1/2" longer spec. I got a longer belt and it worked perfectly.
Thanks,

Thanks for the update
