I notice that when anyone under about 130 LBS (my 14 year old) gets in and out of the front passenger seat, the "Service Air Bag" notification comes up on the Driver Info Center, as well as the airbag idiot light. Now if I sit in the passenger seat (220lbs) everything works fine. The yellow indicator says that the passenger side airbag is now on. And it stays off if my kid is in it.

I imagine that the sensor has gotten squirrely that's in the seat bottom that determines if a child (or really small adult) is in the front passenger seat . Anyone else have this issue? I am reluctant to take it in because of what it might cost (out of warranty) and the fact that the yellow airbag indicator is staying off when my short, skinny 8th grader is in the seat, which is fine with me. I think he's safer than having the airbag potentially take his head off in an accident. I just get the red idiot light that says it needs service when he's in it.

Personally I would have it checked even if its costs you some money. Dont think you want your kid hit with an ebag if the system is incorrectly judging your childs weight.

You're probably right, but I think that at his weight and height, it technically should be "on", so if it is possibly off, so much the better the way I see it.
