I have an Olds 455 in my 79 with a shaker scoop. It doesn't hit the right place and was modified by the previous owner, basically making a kluge that snaps into place. To be honest with you I think it would have been a better idea to attach the shaker to the hood and use whatever air cleaner you wanted to. The stock shaker is blocked anyway, so it's not like you're losing performance.

On my 75 T/A it came with a 79 shaker. It had an Olds 403 and it does fit but it's not right. I have a builder 400 I'm going to put in it, and when it do I'll install one of the two 74 GTO shakers I have. The 1974 GTO shaker was functional> The Trans Am shakers stopped being functional in 1973, and it was due to engine noise and the limitations on making it quieter. To fit a 1974 GTO scoop to a Pontiac (or Olds/Chevy) you have to drill out the rivets and modify the plate that holds the shaker. I bought an old 403 Olds shaker base to do this, just haven't got around to it yet.

To be honest with you, I'd keep the turbo hood. It looks nice and you can just use an aftermarket air cleaner.

The shaker is attached to the air cleaner. Not sure if it will line up to fit the hole in the hood properly with a 350. I would look at junkyards for an air cleaner/shaker set up and try that.

Messing with shakers is a common problem on TA's with engine swaps. I'm in the middle of turning mine back into a real shaker on my car, cause it has an Olds 455 which sits much higher.

Being so common, check out the forum at www.78ta.com. There is quite a lot of real specific info on there.
