Shifting issues

Hi all I’m new here. I have an 03 grand am with the 3400 My girlfriend started having issues with it about a year ago and it just progressively got worse. Currently what happens is it runs almost to 4500 rpm before wanting to shift into second gear. Also if I’m doing 30 ish mph and try to accelerate hard it’s almost like nothing happens it just revs up and stays there like it’s trying to down shift but isn’t going anywhere... I figured the torque converter was failing and honestly the transmissions are cheap enough so I decided to swap the transmission for one I bought from a low miles car that was wrecked. I pulled the motor and trans together out the top and swapped them over smooth as butter get it put back together and still have the same issue.

Do you have a check engine light on ?
Did you drop the pan on the new transmission before installing it?

No check engine light other than an evap code which I fixed with a purge solenoid. I did remove the pan and put a fresh filter in. It was pretty clean seemed like normal
