Hi, This Is Donnie!! I Just Bought My Family Members Sunfire Because He Lossed His Driver's License. The Car Had 86,000 From The Dealer Where He Bought It In January 2010'. He Didn't Even Barely Put 3,000 Miles On It. I Just bought It From Him This Past November 30th, 2013. My Truck Was Broadsided & Totaled Out & I Was Screwed 4 A Vehicle. So Anyway I Bought The Car From My Cousin & Have Been Noticing That When I'm Driving & Soon As I Hit 30mph The Car Shifts From 2nd To 3rd Early & Then Shifts Right Into 4th Overdrive Right Away, Right After It Just Shifted From 2nd To 3rd. What Is Going On Here?? Trans a Fluid Is Full & Looks Fine. Any Thoughts On What The Problem Is?? I'm Hearing Shift Solenoids Are Known Problems For This Car. Is That True. Dadrummer77!!

Instrument Cluster Failure!! All Gauges Are Failing On My Instrument Cluster!! 1st It Was Temp Gauge, 2nd Tachometer Gauge That Ran Into The Speedometer. Now The Speedometer Is Glitchy & Cant 0 Out Fully Because Tach Needle Ran Into It. Now The Gas Gauge Is Malfunctioning Slowly & Dont Know The Amount Of Gas Or Temperature Of The Vehicle Now!! I've Read Thousands Of Reviews With The Same Problem & Apparently Gm Used Defective Stepper Motors On The Assembly Line From 2003' To 2007' & Apparently They Don't Want 2 Fix The Problem!! No Full Recall Or Nothing!! I'm About 2 Hire A Lemon Lawyer, Cause This Car Is Unsafe Right Now & My Kids Are Passengers In This Vehicle With Me!! Gm Knows About This Problem & It Has Been Going On For Awhile Now & No Recall On The Instrument Cluster'. dadrummer 77

i dont think lemon laws would apply in your case.

you do seem to have a clone of my car though because the shifting issue seems the same and i also had the stepper motor go bad for my speedometer. the motors are cheap (ebay) and fairly easy to replace if you are handy with a soldering/desoldering iron.

in mine i also need to replace the bulb for the odometer, that can be found at radio shack but is much harder to replace. i would recommend someone with advanced soldering skills for this. i am an electronics tech by trade so i already happened to have the tools and experience when it came to that.

while im typing, if your rear defrost ever stops working bypass the plug in the driver side kick panel.

im getting rid of this car personally.

2005' Pontiac Sunfire!!

I'm Already About To Sell The Car & Get The Truck I Really Need For Work!! I Bought The Car Off My Cousin Because My Truck Was Hit & Totaled!! I Do Like The Car But It Shouldn't Be Having These Kinds Of Problems With 90,000 Miles On It!!

Honestly I wouldn't have your kids in the car period. The crash test safety rating on Sunfires is terrible for the passenger seat, received 1/5 stars

Just food for thought.

If you can get it fixed up enough you can sell it for maybe around $1500 and an older Chevy 1500 will run you about there. They're also relatively easier to work on.

It is unclear what the issue is other than the car shifting through all gears into 4th. Why is that an issue?
