Rylan's mommy

Ok..we all know GM is no longer making Pontiac vehicles after December 2010. I have a 2008 Pontiac G8, it is the 15th G8 that was made. I was wondering if I should keep it or get rid of it. Some people have told me to get rid of it that it will be nearly impossible to get parts for it & so on. Some people have told me to keep and park it up if possible & it would be worth alot in a few years. It's in PERFECT condition. Just wondering.

Thanks.
Thank You all for answering my question! I LOVE my car!!!! & do not plan on getting rid of it. Thanks!!!

First of all the people who are telling you that there wont be any parts are not too bright. There will be plenty of parts for many years to come.
Secondly, GM might just get the bail out they need...its undetermined at this point.Thirdly...you would have to keep it in mint condition for like at least 50 years before it would be considered a classic and honestly wont be worth that much.
You should keep it..pay it off and establish great credit this way you can get an even better car when your ready to sell it...trades never get what they are worth!!

Just because GM is no longer making Pontiac does not change anything for you. Parts will be just as available as before. I would keep it and drive it just like you are doing if you like the car. The car will not gain any value either, its just like any other car, it will continue to depreciate if you drive it and if you do not drive it, the value will stay the same for a while but the continue to depreciate.

Also, expect Pontiac to make a comeback in the future!!!

Whoever told you that parts will be harder to get now is a complete IDIOT...and don't take any car advice from them.

There's NO reason whatsoever to sell your G8 unless you WANT to. Just because GM is shutting Pontiac down means nothing for your parts availability, warranty and service contracts.

At least you asked before making a bad decision. It's getting bad though...people are idiots...and the media is doing NOTHING to stop questions like what you're asking(I'm not in any way slamming you). People think because Pontiac is going bye bye or that GM is filing bankruptcy protection that somehow they're going to be screwed. That's not the case, GM isn't going under, they're only filing for protection, Pontiac parts will still be readily available, especially for your model.

Keep the car unless you want something else...but don't sell it because of Pontiac's situation.

I would sell it, My dad just traded in his GM yukon 2006 in perfect condition and they gave him nothing for it. Imagine 2 years from now. If i were you i would go to carmax, I have been told they give you the highest $$$. wont cost you anything to find out though....good luck

My concern is related to parts and service (labor) cost once I run out of the 36/30K warranty ... that is what has me looking for alternatives now.

wont you face the same issue with labor cost on any car once the 36/30k warranty expires? As far as parts, Chevy is currently using the same platform and marketing it as the Caprice so you wont run out of parts for a long time.

I have to agree with pretty much everyone here. Whom ever is giving you advice needs to actually learn what they're talking about in order to take their foot out of it. The thing with GM is that their engineering is pretty much universal. What was used on the Chevrolet Camaro was used on the Pontiac Firebirds, what's used on the Cadillac CTS-V is used on the Pontiac G8. Everything in GM is pretty much universal.

Now that's square, my personal opinion for you on whether or not you should sell your car is to take into consideration the elements of your life (i.e. family, environment, etc...). If you're in an environment where you're only able to drive it half the year due to snow, then it wouldn't do you any good unless you wish to keep it just for show. If you have a family, and you're worried about the MPG, then that could be a good enough excuse to sell. Either way, do what suits you, however if you're going to sell, do it as a private seller, and not through a trade. You'll gain more $$$ that way, and with it you'll have more options when you do look for another car.

Just wanted to point out to anybody posting on this thread, the original post was from 2009 and was a guest who never came back. Thanks.
