should i upgrade the camshaft on my 73 pontiac firebird? ?

I'm trying to add a little bit of power and i know that the stock cam is pretty mild. if i were to upgrade the cam would it really open up the power?
Edit: sorry, i should've gave more information. I've already installed a Hi-rise edelbrock intake, holly 570 carb, headers and full exhaust.
well, i'm trying to get more power out of this engine. when it was built, GM along with every other car manufacturer were trying to save the environment with stricter regulations. with a 400 ci engine, there's only so many things that you can do and changing the camshaft is one of them.

It would help a bit, but you should also put a decent intake on it and exhaust if you want to make some extra power

Stock cam is mild but it gives you and even running engine over a wide rpm band. Hi lift cam will run like crap at idle. And eat alot of fuel. Don't you think the manufacturers have done all this stuff when they designed the engine. They have the major bucks.

bore and stroke increases are the only real way to increase horsepower. Turn your 400 into a 461 and your where you want to be.

cam swaps are the heart of the engine, for sure. but truly only move the RPM power band up or down. cam lobe overlap is the idle quality 106 -108 is choppy sounds cool, 108 112 is smooth

If you have an auto, installing a higher stall torque converter will help performance. If you pick a cam and converter together it would really help. The factory cam is a mixture of low cost and low emissions. Do some research, there are better all around cams out there.
