i have a 1998 pontiac sunfire with a 2.4 and in the morning when i start it up it cranks very slow for a couple turns then pops right off. sometimes it doesnt sometimes it does. some of the time when its up to temp it does it also but not all the time. i was wondering if my starter is weak or the winter has just been hard on her. thanks for the input guys

Slow cranking would be an indication of the starter going bad (I think). That's what mine did about a month ago before it went bad.

If you have another car, or know someone that can give you a ride and it's easy to remove the starter then remove it and take it to a local auto parts store and they can test it for you.

Test your battery and alternator before going the starter route.

it has a brand new battery so i would hope it isnt that...and also while driving on dirt road and if i hit some washboards the headlights and interior lights dim and the rpms go down like its going to die but then it doesnt and runs just fine after that..would that be a sign of loose or bad battery cables?

was the alternator tested when you put in the battery?
