Hey Everyone,

I am having this problem with my Grand Am. This started about two weeks ago. I would get into the car and when I try to start the car it will crank slowly until it started. Normally around 2 to 3 seconds give or take. This happened every time I started the car all that week. The guy that works on my cars wasn't able to look at it at the time. Then one morning about a week later after the 1st time it wouldn't crank at all. I left it alone for a few mins and then tried it again. I wouldn't crank at first then I seen some steam/white smoke coming up from the hood and it started. After it started I could smell a strong burning rubber oder coming through the vents. This was the day I was suppose to take it to the garage and they looked all over it and couldn't find anything wrong. Plus the car started up close to 30 times perfect.

Its now two weeks later and the car is starting to do the same thing all over again. Does anyone out there have any thoughts as to what in the world this is?

Details: I have a 2003 Grand Am with a 2.1 Liter 4 Cyclinder Engine. The Battery was replaced about two months ago so its pretty much brand new.

Thanks,

Ifinx

Check the battery connections both at the battery and the starter and the ground.

Ifinx,
Are you still experiencing this issue with your Grand Am? If you are I would recommend that you contact your local GM dealer and have them look into this for you. They may be in the best position to get this issue diagnosed for you. Please keep me posted and if you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to contact me anytime.
Thank you,
Stacy GM Customer Service

My guess would be the starter without a further inspection.

Thanks, that was my thoughts to, but being the holidays I haven't had anyone able to look at it just yet.

Thank you, I will do that if they have a opening soon enough. Yes I am experiencing this with my Grand Am.

Thank you, I have done this myself the connections are solid with no burn spots or anything. I am going more toward the starter or ignition. Anyway thank you for replying.
