I have a '67 Lemans Sprint six that I am restoring. I meant to do just a minor restoration, shine it up a little bit and and get the engine running. I Hate to say it but it is getting to be a major undertaking. The car does have a few cavities that need addressing. No major rust but a lousy paint job by the PO is providing a challange. I will try and make the best of it without a repaint, but it will mean taking it down to bare metal in places.
The engine and transmission are out and being overhauled. The head was in good shape but required some cleaning. The valve cover needs replacing but the cam is like new. The block had a frozen piston but it was removed without any problem. Honing may be all that's necessary. External engine parts are a different matter. I can see where replacement parts are gonna nickle and dime me badly. This past weekend I bought a sound OHC 6 with a 3 speed manual. It's not a SPRINT but I may drop it into the LeMans until the SPRINT is done. I am attaching pics of the engine codes which I have been unable to decode.
I am not planning on repainting the car but I am repainting the wheel wells and engine bay and front clip The floor panel and trunk floor are being derusted and brushed with a rust neutralizer. The entire dash will be rebuilt. I have ripped out the harness in the engine compartment. The gauge panel is next.
The convertible top frame looks great but it is being repainted. I will be ordering a complete interior kit and all accessories. As soon as the wiring is done, I will be moving it to a shop to install a Wilwood disc brake conversion kit. Budget???
Any help on decoding the six I just purchased? I'll share pix of new engine and transmission tomorrow.
