I Have A Pontiac 400 Out Of A 1971 Gto And It In My 1986 Cutlass So What Are U All Running

"Best" or not, I do like my 400. The previous two owners built and/or modified it, and I honestly don't know exactly what has gone into it over the years. I do know the block is from a '69 GP, the heads are original and the internals are definitely not stock. In a straight line it's considerably faster than my GTO.

Oh, I like my LS2 a lot too, but it's not a "real" Pontiac. ;)

389

i'd have to say just go with a 389 tri power. gives you all the power you need with out taking all the gas

well in my oppinion that would be the 455 sd's but im going to build some thing different.....................a 301 turbo complete sleeper not to mention me and my dad and uncle have a bet going on to see who can build a better junkyard turbo motor using the lesser known and used small blocks

me:301 ho poncho

uncle:273 commando mopar

dad:260 ford

all have to be built using parts from only their repective manufacture including turbos and intercoolers hard yes different yes but its so worth it

I am guessing that the Ford and Mopar are going to have turbos from a newer application since neither was ever built with a factory turbo.

I hate to say it but for durability both the 273 and 260 will most likely outlast the 301. The 301 cranks are really weak, but what should one expect when it weighs only about 55-60% as much as a 350-400 Pontiac crank.

true but mine is not a factory turbo block its a 301 HO block the crank im thinking is going to last no more than one burnout or one trip down the strip or hell no more than a dyno run but as long as I can see the rear wheel power im fine with that and I never said the 301 was using factory turbo just one that was made by pontiac or gm considering that gm owns and makes pontiacs but the 301 has to use the turbo intake im going to use a cam with the same profile that was in the 220 hp 400 (it was used on the 301 HO) with 9:0.1 compression and ported heads (intake and exhaust runners) the block I think will withstand a .30 overbore the trany will be a th2004r but im not sure if this all will work I still need to do more research but this is a general idea

i like my 455. with a stock cam, an edelbrock intake, headers, and hei distributor it ran 13s with 3.08 gears.
