My daughter's 2002 Grand Am, 4 cyl. with 57k miles is having strange starting problem.
Sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesn't. Once it starts, the engine runs great and has no more issues.
The problem is: getting the engine to start. It turns over very good, but sometimes it does not start.
I have determined that it is related to a wiring issue or computer command control or maybe security system. Reasons: When I turn the ignition key to the "on" position, if the "service eng. soon" light comes on, meaning I can hear the electric fuel pump run for about 3 seconds or until it pressurizes and then I turn the ignition key to the "start" position - THE ENGINE WILL TURN OVER AND START IMMEDIATELY and the "service eng. soon" light will go off.
The problem is: Sometimes the "service eng. soon" light will not come on or sometimes it has a long delay before it will come on - meaning I'm not getting power to my electric fuel pump and/or maybe to the ignition circuit. Turning to iginition key on & off serveral times helps, but not a very good option for my 17 year old daughter.
Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated
Thanks in advance for your replies!
