speedometer

My speedometer (95 Sunfire) has acquired a mind of it's own. Sometimes it doesn't move and other times it look like the needle on an instrument detecting poisons in the air at Chernobyl. Has anyone every had this before and if so, what part should be replaced to fix it? I have heard 2 things but am not sure, body control module or replace the entire dashboard. Thanks in advance for any help.

transmission speed sensor could also do this i think

ur speedo cable on ur tranny could b durty or broke that would b the problem and not ur gage cluster
