So, I finally got my car back on the road. Rebuilt the original 350, nut and bolt. New starter, HEI distributor, carb, battery, everything.
After having it out on a few sunday rides, I took the kids out for ice cream on a hot day. After sitting for about 20 minutes, we left, drove 10 miles and the car died while driving down the highway. It started back up and died again a few miles later. This happened 5 times in a 30 mile trip.
Considering everything is new, I replaced the HEI coil thinking maybe I got a bad one. Unfortunately, that was not the solution. The only thing that I have not done, that makes sense, is to replace the power (12V+) line in the possibility that there is an open being caused by heat or movement.
I have checked all connections and everything is tight. When the car dies, it just dies. No warning, like the key is shut off. Any ideas?

Thanks!

There are a number of possibilites. The module in the HEI may be failing when hot. Does it start right back up after stalling, if not check at the plugs to see if you have spark, pull a wire off a plug insert a insulated screwdriver tip and hold the shaft near something metall to see if a spark jumps the gap. When it stalls look down the primary side of the carburetor to see if you have gas dripping. Recheck the bolts that hold the carburetor to the intake, you may have a vacuum leak when hot.

Fuel could be getting hot ,recheck your fuel line routing.

Like Mel said, the module needs the grease under it to isolate heat from the metal, a lot of aftermarket ones fail easy, get a Accel or GM module only.
