02 Montana. will stall as soon as it's put in drive.3nd.2nd. Runs just find in reverse and low. I dont think it the tranz.

how well is the vehicle maintained? how many miles on the fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs? how many miles on the vehicle?

All of that is unknown. it has at least 130,000 on it. I have just found out the miles may have been rolled back (thats a diff story) Could the EGV Valve cause this???? Thanks

130,000 just breaking in ,I had problems with the engine missing on wet days and humid days and changed plugs&wires and fixed the problem, however you have a different problem does it miss when driving ? And just to clarify when you put it in reverse it idles just fine but when shifted to drive it stalls ? How about if you fake it out and give it a little gas does it sputter ?

You don't get a chance to give it gas. as soon as it hit d it shuts down. I can drive it in r and low It has dodged down a bit when starting out in the past. Just a small chug as she just told me. Lol its my daughters van. I'm trying to help her out here.

I see a couple of fusses for the trans axle maybe one is bad or take them out to perhaps reset the tranny but just guessing . Keep us posted.

Look at the trans/engine wire loom in the area that the shift cable operates. And see if the cable or shift arm isn't cutting into the wire loom.

The latest is I took in to a tranz shop and had them put there scanner on it. They came up with 3 codes po742 tcc stuck on, p1189 eng oil pressure switch,p1811 max adapt/ long shift. and they tell me it needs a new tranz $1600 Please. Also took it to auto zone and they put it on there scanner and came up with p0742 torque converter solenoid. So i dont know but I will keep you updated. Thanks for all your ideas

Usually for the p1811 code, the trans could be removed and the valve body passages cleaned and a new valve body spacer plate installed. During that time they could install the new tcc solenoid. $1600 for a new or rebuilt trans sounds too cheap, so beware and get references for the shop you want to use.

It does NOT die in reverse or 3rd. Also once you get moving you can put it in drive (but will die if you stop)

a few years back on buicks you could pull the wires off the tranny to prevent the torque convertor from locking up ,this trick would work but you would drop a couple of mpg's not sure if this trick works on montana's ?

where are the fusses for the trans axle? Thanks again. You guys are great

Well this is what it turned out to be. The wire running to the trans was burnt and melted. We replaced it and for two weeks now it has been working fine. Once again THANK YOU for all the help from the members!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

glad you found the problem and it sounds like its fixed . for future help to the members where at was the wires burned up ?

The clip where is plugs into the tranz. Once we unplugged it you could where it was burnt. There maybe a electrical issue. Now we have a hard shift and getting worst.
