My 70 lemans just started doing this. Warms up and drives great but once I shut the car off to do something ie: get gas at the station, the car will mot start back up again for ten minutes or so. I thought thataybe the starter solenoid was getting too hit so I put a heat shield on it and also have my headers wrapped in that area around the starter. Still the car won't start when it is warm. Won't even turn over. Is this an ignition problem? Ideas, thoughts greatly appreciated. Thank you

When the car gets warm it gives me a "dead battery" when I try to start it. No click from the starter, nothing.

Check you battery connections at the battery, at the ground and at the starter. If they all are tight, what is your initial timing set for? If the timing at idle is more than say 18 degrees you are over advanced. If this is not the case, the only thing left is the starter/solenoid. Some other thoughts, what temperature themostat are you using? If 195 use a 180. Have you had the battery and charging system checked?

i tested the battery, starter was bad got a new one, put in the 180 thermostat. timing is set at 9 BTD still wont turn over. gets power because my electric fuel pump comes on. and i cleaned the shims and block to provide a good ground when i put the new starter in. also checked all of my fuses and nothing was blown.

Are you saying now it never turns over or this is still a hot start issue? Have you checked if there is voltage going to the starter solenoid when someone turns the ignition key to start? Are you sure the neutral safety switch isnt preventing the starter from engaging, jump the switch to take it out of the circuit. Do you have the heat shield on the starter solenoid? You checked the ground cable where it attaches to the motor, nothing broken?
