steering wheel assembly 1976 Trans AM

I am working with a brick a brack on this 176 Trans AM. The car when I got it from my customer had a Camaro steering wheel mated to a firebird horn button. nothing correct. I purchased the correct wheel, adapter and the correct horn switch adapter and horn switch. Now when I disassembled this a while back there was a spring that stuck above the cancel cam. it had some locking mechanism that locked onto the cancel cam . below that was a short cable which I assumed made the connection inside the column for the horn to work once it touched the horn switch ?
what is this part called and where or who sells a new one? or is it just a find a used part somewhere kind of thing?
I have come to a screeching halt for the last 30 days trying to get the correct parts to put this piece of the puzzle to rest.
any thoughts ?

I rebuilt many of these columns over the years, yet going by your description I am drawing a blank even after a cup of coffee.
