Sunbird reading to keep you guys interested.

lol the guy who did the solid motor mounts deleted almost all of his interior. I get why he did it but it makes it no less funny in some of the pics where you can see it removed.

Also my timing belt did almost the same thing his did but it tore around long way. I cut the hanging pieces that bound up and limped it home on a 1/4 inch thick timing belt lol. non-interference engine so I wasn't worried about the belt breaking.

Of course this was before I did my head job. So far the new belt has held up quite well but I think my drive belt tensioner is going because of squeaking from a brand new drive belt after it has broken in. I'm guessing weak spring causing a little slack.

I'll be replacing that not too long from now since it is literally one bolt. I may also do what he has done with the motor mounts that was a great idea. Mine aren't shot all the way but getting there.

I still have to do the driverside upper trans mount ( broken ) and lower "dog bone" strut mount ( worn) also. Hopefully it will take the vibration out of the steering wheel/ dash thats driving me crazy. Did the passenger side mount when I bought it last year.

I dont get the solid mounts he made either, its going to vibrate the hell out of the car, usually for racing only.

Doug in P.R.

Yeah I was thinking solid mounts not too wise there.

He should have made some padding out of an industrial rubber to fit so it was cushioned.

Good luck on the mounts although not hard they do get a lot of debris from the road.

I remember doing the upper engine mount on a saturn SL1. It was real funny because I didn't do the transmission mount and when I looked at the engine it was noticeably slanted . It did remove the vibes the car had but it would have removed a whole lot more if I had done the tranny mount on that car.

On a side note. I managed to get every single light (brake light, CEL) off on the car. Makes me proud when I look at the dash and there are no lights.

I will probably be doing the TBI rebuild soon she idles kind of rough on the first start of the day. My guess is a vacuum leak around the TBI from a crap gasket since all lines are good.

I will get some pics as I do it.

I wish I could get engine/transaxle mounts that are a bit tougher. Solid steel would suck but if the rubber was solid it would last.

The rubber does suck on em. Most of the time when working on these cars the only thing available is cheap Chinese parts. I guess it wouldn't take much to actually fabricate them yourself but it would take a long time.

I may try that with the trans mount. It's the only one that has the openings. Looking at the pics now, they all do. I'm gonna do it!

LMFAO you sound like me.....a little reading and I start think hell I can do that. lol Most of the time it works out. But it is also why I have an unfinished 1911 frame. I am bad about procrastination. And anyone ever try to find a Main spring housing for a para 12/13 officer size cheaply. Yeah not gonna happen.

The original Stainless main spring from my model 85 Taurus is in some douchebag's Walther P38. Long story, never got it back. Used to be there were big piles of 1911 parts out there. You could have a different barrel for every day of the week! May not for that unit though.
