Sunfire rear brake drums stuck?

Im was trying to change a friends rear brakes last night and the rear drums would not come off no matter how hard i tried. The emer parking brake was off.

The brakes are in terrible need of changing and has been griding and all over due. Im think the brake pads may have cut into the inside of the drums and are holding it from sliding off.

Any help on what to try or another problem it might be or something im doing wrong?

give it a few taps with a hammer or rubber mallet to see if that'll free it up. Chances are its rusted shut. I remember when trying to open the drums in my 04 caravan it was rusted shut. After about 15 minutes of pounding and hitting it finally came out, so give it a few whacks to see if that'll loosen it up

Did you back off the star wheel throught the adjustment slot in the backing plate? Hit the face of the drum with the hammer.
